Vessel sinks, or above counter sinks are another distinctive choice that can be selected when doing a bathroom renovation.

There are many material choices available in vessel sinks. We are well acquainted with the appearance of porcelain, and appreciate it’s easy care requirements. If porcelain is preferred, there are a number of styles and shapes on the market.

The vessel sink does open up many other possibilities for the material it is composed of. Earthy styles in stone fit very well in a sophisticated bath that is planned for a masculine theme. Copper, stainless, or bronze are other likely choices. In some instances two or more metals are combined in a design. Wood is another natural material used as in the de la frontera mesquite vessel sink, which has a very unique style.

Marble or glass may be the choice if more detail and elegance are the most wanted feeling. Marble, being a natural element dictates it’s own pattern, but coloration is still a choice of the shopper.

Glass vessel sinks bring almost endless possibilities in design, color and shape. The round, square and rectangular are typical either with or without special embellishment formed into the glass itself, and more arty designs with no defined shape are also available. These unique artsy items are often one of a kind, artists creations, and expensive.

But for those of us with budget restrictions, there are a wide variety of patterns and styles from which to find one that just suits us fine.

A rainbow of colors in glass, and a wide array of different patterns either natural or artistic. DeNova Caribella Butterfly Swirl is primarily clear glass with an embedded butterfly design. The DreamLine DLG005 vessel sink is another all-over pattern, but with a more sophisticated feel.

Above counter sinks are probably not wel suited in a bath designed with small children in mind. A vessel, because it is mounted on the countertop, is higher than a typical sink. If children are older and have more height this may not even factor in.

You will also need to consider the faucet. A very few vessels will have the faucet affixed to the sink itself. In most cases, however, the faucet system will be installed either in the wall or to the countertop.

A wall installation will require more steps, and opening the wall, and not a likely option except in major renovations.

Usually the faucet is installed into the counter top, and there are longer neck vessel fillers designed to accomodate the extra reach needed with a vessel.

Making your selection of style and finish of a vessel filler will add further uniqueness in the decor of your newly renovated bath.
