Have you realized the direction and focus in the features of a house have changed over the last several decades? Houses built in the 70′s and 80′s were built with large backyards and family gathering areas but have little to no closet space and small, confined bathrooms. Compared to modern day bathrooms, you could fit sometimes as many as 10 older bathrooms in one master suite of a standard house built today. Because of our change in our standard of living, people now expect luxurious bathrooms and closet space over an obtuse yard, which requires maintenance and upkeep.
Modern women want a space where they can relax and unwind from a full day at work or with the kids. If you own an older home, chances are that you are nowhere near that desired spa and are craving for some updates, no matter how small.
When planning a Scottsdale bathroom design, think about some suggestions here, and ways you can get out of the box.
Texture
Mixing textures and different elements is a great idea, don’t be afraid of it. You can easily mix natural stone and porcelain tile to create more interest in a space. For example, natural stone around a bathtub drop-in for a focal point, but use porcelain tile to save on the budget. You can also mix in glass tiles for added color and a “pop” to the space. Sinks are also a great tool to add more interest to your bathroom. Whether you choose and under-mounted stainless steel sink or a sink that is basin style, atop your counter and is rough and stony. There are hundreds of options available to choose from rather than going with the tradition counter and sink.
Accents
This is where most people seem to fall short. They get the overall design and amenities they are looking for but don’t follow through with the finishing touches. One of these common mistakes include the light fixtures. This small, but important fixture is very important in finalizing that spa like atmosphere. Additionally, consider using framed mirrors, which add warmth and a sense of elegance, instead of the cookie-cutter mirrors you find in trac homes. Instead of using traditional towel bars and rings, get out of the box and use hooks, or other devices that are custom and can double as towel hangers. My husband and I hated the gold rings that came with our house to hold the hand towels so we found contemporary toilet paper bars that were very contemporary and clean. We installed those instead as hand towel hangers and they work brilliantly. Not only do they look amazing and custom, but no one knows what the original purpose was for the bar!
Extras
When doing Scottsdale bathroom remodeling, don’t forget the extra luxuries that are available to you. When redoing your cabinetry area, consider the idea of installing a under the counter fridge, or a warming drawer for your towels. Nothing screams luxury more than a steamy towel after a relaxing bath. Also, consider making space for either a wall mounted flat screen or a custom cabinet to hold a TV in an easily viewed area.
Master bath retreats have become a must when purchasing a home. So when it comes time that you would like to start updating your space, don’t forget all the options available and don’t be afraid to enlist in someone to help you with the planning and execution of the project. There is way too much potential for you to miss if on your own when it comes to Scottsdale Bathroom Designs.

2You have started a very interesting discussion on bathroom design. I’m a cabinetmaker who really does not want to make kitchens and bathrooms for a living, because the most of what is done in the US is just boxes with a “choice of doors and drawer fronts,” the most of which are made in a factory somewhere. Boring. I want to do something else if I can, but what?
European design just absolutely blows my mind, and I find myself reading quite a bit on it, even though these are often modular kitchens and bathrooms that one would simply send away for and have installed by a local craftsman. But what fascinates me is the utter innovation of those designs, so I find myself returning to them quite a bit.
I am also looking to design two bathrooms and a kitchen for my wife in too-small spaces in a tract home, which necessarily lets out those wonderful European designs that excite me so. And whenever I find myself going out on a limb with some idea or another, my wife always grounds me by saying, “If you stick with the classics, you won’t grow tired of them.”
So, what do you do that is different and yet timeless and practical and stimulating to make if you’re a cabinetmaker? Damned if I know, but if I ever figure it out, I mean to make it for us and splash those babies all over the Internet!
What you’ve written, though, has given me quite a bit to think about, and I thank you for sharing your concepts.
