Embraced by nearly all of the world’s hotels from Hiltons to Holiday Inns, a tiled bathroom can be the ultimate in elegance and luxury while still being an economical and practical way of decorating a home bathroom.

 

It is the attractiveness of bathroom tiles coupled with their low maintenance that makes them a staple in top hotels from Las Vegas to Dubai.

For a start, with only a small amount of care, your bathroom tiles will be looking their best for a long, long time. A weekly wipe down is all it takes for general care, though for the tiles around your wet areas, showers and baths, it is advisable to use a daily spray cleaner. These can be bought cheaply from any supermarket, tile or D.I.Y shop. After you have finished showering (or bathing), simply spray the wet areas to prevent soap scum and mould. Nothing could be easier and your tiles will be looking their best for a long time to come.

Tiles come in all shapes and forms so no matter what your taste, you will find bathroom tiles to suit you. The price varies greatly depending on the look you want to achieve.

Ceramic and Porcelain tiles tend to be at the cheaper end of the scale, although do not think you will have to compromise on appearance, Ceramic and Porcelain tiles come in thousands of variations. Porcelain tiles are essentially Ceramic tiles but offer more water resistance than Ceramic tiles. Do not discount Ceramic tiles though, they are still very waterproof.Look for impervious tiles, these have less than 5% water absorption and are ideal for tiling a bathroom.

Moving up the scale, Glass tiles can offer a very elegant look and if kept clean and polished can make your bathroom sparkle. Despite its benefits though, Glass bathroom tiles are a little more delicate and can break more readily than other types of tile.

At the top end of the scale are natural stone bathroom tiles. Common types of natural stone bathroom tiles are Granite, Slate and Marble. Many people prefer the look of natural stone tiles, though you will be paying a premium for this look. If you are considering tiling your bathroom with natural stone tiles it is very important to check that your walls and/or floor are able to bear the weight of these tiles or you could be left with boxes of unusable tiles or even worse a broken floor or wall.

You can share the benefits of a tiled bathroom in your own home at a low cost.If you are confident to lay the bathroom tiles yourself, you can save even more money. All you need is a few days spare and a little bit of preparation.
